Hello!
We've had to start again! The last blog was sadly lost into the ether. Yes, I know you can find it at the old address but we had trouble accessing the password etc...don't say a word!
So here we are again...The Networks Theatre blog. A space on the internet to keep up to date with all the latest news about your theatre in English!
We all know how Networks Theatre has enriched our lives in many ways. And the latest news from the Networks team is that it will continue to do so over the coming months and years.
THE CURRENT SHOW
This is our EIGHT PANTOMIME! The show is A CHRISTMAS CAROL. The famous story of Ebenezer Scrooge and how on Christmas Eve he's visited by four ghosts! It's a beautiful and moving Christmas story that everyone knows. A great family event with surprising songs, tears and plenty of laughter. A Christmas Carol has a larger than life Dame (Clara Cratchit) played by Dennis Carpenter, and Nick Moore plays Bob Cratchit. Scrooge is brilliantly played by Joaquin Montesinos, a veteran of our theatre. Shows will take place on November 26 at 20.15, on November 27 at 21.00 and on November 28 at 17.00 and 19.30 (SOLD OUT).
FUTURE SHOWS
It's time to get excited again! Well isn't it always at Networks? This year is no exception. Next week after the panto ends we'll go into rehearsal for three groups and they'll be performing SCROOGE. A kids version of A Christmas Carol.
As soon as we return from the Christmas break we'll begin rehearsals on PSYCHEDELIC COOL, an amazing mix of two classic musical styles, Grease and Hair. Hippies meet cool at Networks! Shows will be in March.
Then we're doing a show like we've never done before. WHEN I WAS ME is a devastating collection of personal testaments from young people who have taken their own lives.
Suicide brings emotional devastation to children, grandchildren, parents, siblings, aunts, uncles, cousins, grandparents and friends of the victim. These survivors are not included in the teenage suicide statistics that are available. But...teenage suicide statistics are a part of these numbers:
rates for ages 15-24 in the United States are 7.9 per 100,000. There are 31,000 suicides a year in the U.S., the 3rd leading cause of death in people 15 – 24 years old.
We finish the year with WHO SHOT THE SHERIFF? A comedy cowboy musical! Yeehiiiii!
THE NEW VENUE
How exciting is this news? We're getting a bigger theatre! But hold on!!! Not that big! Over the years we've had more than a few comments from theatre-goers about the size of Networks Theatre!
The first thing to say is that the magic of Networks is partly due to the intimacy of the venue. As a performer you're so close to the audience! And vice-versa of course. I don't agree at all that we should perform our shows in the local civic theatre Teatro Circo. It's an enormous venue compared to what we have and so much was lost last year when we performed Odysseus there for the local school kids.
This new venue will just be slightly larger. Instead of 5 metres stage width it will be 8 metres...what a difference that will make! Instead of 55 seats there will about a 100! Brilliant. Thanks to Lee and Cristina's commitment to theatre and Orihuela we're in for a real treat!
That's all for this updated first blog...if you want to make a comment you'll have to register, if you want to contribute here and submit your own blog about Networks Theatre send the text in English and any photos to theatreinorihuela@yahoo.com. We'll publish it straight away!
